Welcome to THCI's Mini-Rotation

Dear Colleague:

Systems-based Practice (SBP) is an important, required competency for inclusion in all US Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. Yet it remains a challenge to incorporate SBP lessons and materials within existing clinical rotations.  We are pleased to offer you the model and materials that Tufts used in our highly-acclaimed, annual "Mini-Rotation on the Health Care System" to address topics and issues in this domain.

Over a period of 17 years, Tufts Health Care Institute worked with leaders and colleagues at our founding institutions—Tufts University School of Medicine and Tufts Health Plan—along with other physicians and health care executives in New England, to provide information, exercises and materials that would help clinical residents and their program directors to address multiple aspects of systems-based care and quality improvement. Course faculty included clinical and administrative leaders from health care delivery systems, health plans, academia and government.

We invite you to read these pages about the THCI Mini-Rotation on the Health Care System, and to browse our educational materials for use in your own programs. Feel free to download and use specific course materials, small group exercises and assessment tools related to our model; and browse other areas of content and practice that we addressed over the years. We are happy to share these with you.
