Immunization Requirements

All newly accepted students are required to submit immunization documentation by the deadlines listed below:

  • DVM Program - June 29, 2018
  • PhD. MAPP Program and MS-IDGH - June 29, 2018
  • MCM and September Ross Programs - August 1, 2018
  • May Ross Program - May 1, 2018

Rabies vaccine is required for DVM, MCM and MS-IDGH students and for any MAPP and PhD student who works with animals or live rabies virus.

If initial vaccination, booster dose, or antibody titer is 2 years old or older, a new antibody titer is required. If titer level is insufficient for immunity, a booster dose is required.

A Rabies Vaccine Clinic will be held in the Fall for students.  Matriculating students will receive information via email about the clinic as it becomes available. The rabies vaccine will be covered in full under the student health insurance plan.  You will receive an email regarding clinic details.

The following immunizations are required as a condition of matriculation and must be kept up-to-date:

If submitting antibody titer (blood work) laboratory reports must be included with other immunization documentation.

Tetanus Diphtheria Acellular Pertussis (Tdap): One dose of the adult Tdap vaccine, unless current Td booster is less than 2 years old. If current Td booster is less than 2 years old wait to receive Tdap vaccine. If Tdap dose is 10 years old or older a Td booster is required.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR): Two doses of MMR vaccine or positive antibody titers for measles, mumps and rubella.

Varicella (chicken pox): Physician verification of year of disease, positive antibody titer, or two doses of varicella vaccine.

Rabies: Three doses of pre-exposure Rabies vaccine or positive antibody titer.

Hepatitis B: Three doses of hepatitis B vaccine or positive surface antibody titer.

The hepatitis B vaccine is a three-dose series, which takes six months to complete.  For students who have not already started the series, documentation for two doses of the vaccine must be submitted by your program immunization deadline.

Meningococcal: One dose of vaccine within five years prior to start date or a signed State Waiver Form.

Influenza: The 2018-2019 Seasonal Influenza vaccine is required for all students with patient contact, unless medically contraindicated.  Strongly recommended for all others. (The 2018-19 vaccine will be available in August 2018)

Polio:  Proof of vaccination may be required in the future.
