The Orientation Program is run by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA)
. Orientation begins on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the Sackler Center at 145 Harrison Avenue. We believe that Orientation is an essential part of a successful transition to medical school and therefore, attendance is mandatory. Distribution of Orientation packets will be between 8:15 AM and 9:00AM in the Sackler Lobby and the Orientation Program immediately follows in the Sackler Auditorium. Student dress should be presentable but business attire is not required. Keep in mind that a composite photo (headshot) will be taken on the first day of Orientation.
At right, you will find links to a tentative Orientation Schedule, our Academic Calendar, Registrar Information, and other general information. Please be sure to take a moment to read the Standards of Academic and Professional Conduct document since you will be signing our TUSM Student Honor Code during Orientation. We ask that you fill out and return the OSA Information Sheet. If you have not already done so, you should create a Tufts University email account. You should upload your own photo to be used for your Tufts Student ID card which will be distributed at Orientation. The OSA is happy to help with general questions regarding where students live, how to find roommates, etc., as you research housing options.
We also recommend that you review the first-year curriculum information provided at right by the Office of Educational Affairs. Take note of the significant dates as you make any fall travel plans. The textbook list (with ISBN numbers) will give you the opportunity to check online options for textbooks. As you prepare for the first-year curriculum, be aware that students will have opportunities to train at off-site clinical locations across the state beginning in the second semester of first year, and will need to travel. In some cases students can reach sites by public transportation, however these sites are limited and most students will need access to a car (your own, carpool, car-sharing, etc). The medical school has a discounted business account with Zipcar, the local car sharing company that is available to all students.
As you pack clothes, students should be prepared to dress professionally for the first day of the Interviewing course. In the fall semester, a few course sessions will be scheduled in the early evenings; be sure to check TUSK and be prepared to arrange your schedule accordingly. Because the schedule changes frequently throughout the semester, it is recommended that students and faculty check the online schedule every Friday to view the schedule for the following week.
If you have any questions or concerns as you prepare for the start of medical school here at TUSM, please contact the OSA at (617) 636-6534 or email email@example.com. Enjoy the rest of your summer. We are looking forward to seeing you at Orientation!
