School Health Insurance Policies When Leaving the University

Leave of Absence Policy for the Student Health Insurance Plan

Boston and Grafton Health Sciences students, who have been granted a Leave of Absence and who are enrolled in the student health insurance plan will be required to continue enrollment in the plan at least until the end of the paid insurance semester or continuing enrollment in the plan for up to one (1) year from their effective date of  on which the leave begins. The Fall term ends on February 28th/29th and the Spring term ends on August 31st.

The student has fifteen (15) calendar days from the effective date of Leave of Absence to notify the Student Advisory & Health Administration Office of their intent by submitting A Leave of Absence Health Insurance Form. Students must be paid in full within the fifteen (15) day period and must adhere to payment deadlines for subsequent semesters.

Students who previously waived the student health insurance but experience a Qualifying Event while on a Leave of Absence may enroll for coverage by submitting an Enrollment Form, Qualifying Letter, and payment within thirty (30) days of their qualifying event.

Student Health Insurance Policy when Withdrawn or Dismissed

Boston and Grafton Health Sciences students, who are withdrawn or dismissed and who are enrolled in the student health insurance plan will be required to continue enrollment in the plan until the end of the paid insurance semester. The Fall term ends on February 28th/29th and the Spring term ends on August 31st. The student must be a matriculated student for at least 31 days prior to the withdrawal or dismissal, if not the student will be removed from the plan and refunded premium. In the event claims are paid the student will be required to reimburse the health insurance company.

Student Health Insurance Policy for Graduating Students

Boston and Grafton Health Sciences students, who are graduating and enrolled in the student health insurance plan will be required to continue enrollment in the plan until the end of the paid insurance semester. The Fall term ends on February 28th/29th and the Spring term ends on August 31st.

Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Students Leave of Absence Policy for the Student Health Insurance Plan

Graduating Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences students who have been granted a leave of absence from the GSBS and are enrolled in the student health insurance plan, will be required to continue enrollment in the plan at least until the end of the paid insurance semester.  The Fall term ends on February 28th/29th and the Spring term ends on August 31st.  If the insurance has been paid by GSBS, the student will need to assume payment. 

Students may continue enrollment in the plan for up to one (1) year from their effective date of on which the leave begins. Student Health Insurance Policy for Tufts Graduating Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Students

Graduating Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences students coverage will end at the end of the month their stipend ends.

Insurance Conversion Policy for Students Leaving the University

Students who leave the University are not eligible to continue membership in the student health insurance plan under the Federal Law known as COBRA, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, as this law does not apply to student plans.
