Tufts University School of Medicine

Distinguished & Award-Winning Alumni

The year was 1893. At that time Boston was not lacking for places where one could study medicine, but seven local physicians saw an opportunity to train doctors better—and they seized it. Boldly seceding from Boston’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, they contributed $50 apiece to start their own medical school under the auspices of Tufts College.

While many discoveries have improved human health since 1893—penicillin, better sanitation, and the promise of gene therapy, to name a few—at least one thing hasn’t changed. For over 125 years, Tufts has brought together bright physicians, biomedical scientists, and public health professionals whose number one motivation is to help others thrive.
