Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS)

Tufts University School of Medicine's Office of Continuing Education (TUSM OCE) is pleased to work with our affiliated hospitals on continuing education (CE) for their Regularly Schedule Series (RSS). As an accredited provider, we strive to uphold rigorous national standards for quality CE that improve clinician performance and care for patients and communities. Using our RSS Planning Form and other supporting documentation, TUSM OCE will lead you through an effective educational planning process. In doing so, we will highlight the quality standards required of CE providers and educational partners by the following national CE oversight and accrediting bodies: The American Medical Association (AMA) and the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

The ACCME defines a RSS as an activity that is: 1) planned as a Series with multiple sessions that occur on an ongoing basis (offered weekly, monthly, or quarterly); 2) are primarily planned by and presented to the institution's professional staff, and 3) take place within the institution. An RSS can be held as different types/formats – see below:

  • Lecture Based sessions – an internal/external speaker is invited to present on a specific topic and will develop presentation slides for the session (e.g., Grand Rounds)
  • Morbidity Mortality (M M)/Case Conference/Tumor Board sessions – specific patient cases chosen to be discussed by the department/group. No designated speaker.
  • Journal Club sessions – Peer-reviewed literature/articles relevant to their specialty is chosen for review/discussion by the department/group. No designated speaker.

NOTE: Educational activities such as one-time, live conferences hosted by hospital departments would NOT be considered a RSS. Those are considered a non-RSS live activity and require submission of a different Planning Form, and there are associated accreditation fees. Please see the Continuing Education Activities page for more information.

Physicians who attend a RSS approved for continuing education can earn 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ per one hour session. If you would like to offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for your RSS, please contact TUSM OCE at med-oce@tufts.edu for further information and submission deadlines.
