Research synopsis

I am interested in the genetics of cardiovascular disease, specifically: 1) association of candidate genes with biochemical phenotypes (lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, hypertension); 2) search for new genes associated with lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease using genome scan analysis; 3) study of gene-diet interactions by examining the interactions between genetic factors and dietary (fat, cholesterol, alcohol, total calories) and other environmental factors (smoking, exercise); 4) identification of gene-drug interactions (pharmacogenetics) to understand the individual variability in response to pharmacological therapy; 5) study of the genetic basis determining the differences in cardiovascular disease prevalence in populations around the world; and 6) study of the genetic basis of the variability in postprandial lipid response. For these studies, I am using population studies, metabolic dietary studies, and clinical intervention studies.
