We are pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher “Risto” Filippi, MD, as the Alice Ettinger – Jack R. Dreyfuss Chair of Radiology and chair of the School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology.

Risto joined Tufts Medical Center and Tufts Children’s Hospital as radiologist-in-chief on November 1. Prior to that he was at Hofstra School of Medicine in New York, where he was vice chair of biomedical imaging and translational sciences and a professor of radiology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health. His clinical research is focused on pediatric neuroimaging, novel magnetic resonance (MR) techniques, and translational MR in pediatric and adult demyelinating diseases and glioma. He also studies the use of artificial intelligence and deep machine learning in the application of clinical workflow and image analysis. The Alice Ettinger – Jack R. Dreyfuss Chair was established in 1998 in memory of Tufts radiology professor and pioneer, Dr. Alice Ettinger (1889-1993), through an estate gift from radiologist Jack Dreyfuss, M51, and with the support of other friends, alumni and colleagues. Dr. Ettinger helped to bring new X-ray techniques to the United States to diagnose gastrointestinal illness. She was the first radiologist-in-chief of New England Medical Center and the School of Medicine’s first chair of radiology, where she taught for more than 50 years. Dr. Jack Dreyfuss was a major figure in the clinical practice of radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital for 25 years. He was known as a meticulous gastrointestinal radiologist and an outstanding teacher of the art of fluoroscopy. Dr. Dreyfuss was Dr. Ettinger’s first resident in the U.S.
