Strong interest in hospital-based physical therapy with an emphasis in critically ill patients. Additional interests include advanced cardiopulmonary support systems, assistive technologies, and simulation-based education.

Biography
Dr Kargela has her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy. She has practiced primarily within acute settings with a special emphasis on critically ill patients. Additionally, she has experience treating patients with complex medical, surgical, cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurological diagnoses and, more recently, those who are experiencing long-term deficits secondary to post-COVID-19 in the outpatient settings.
She has taught in multiple DPT programs as well as Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Geriatric Specialist Residency Program. Currently, she enjoys teaching within in her passion areas threaded throughout the DPT curriculum and specifically as part of Human Physiology, Cardiopulmonary Practice Management, and Management of the Complex Patient. In all courses, she has developed and delivered evidence-based, active learning strategies focused on clinical reasoning and patient-centered care. Dr Kargela also serves as the Assistant Director of Clinical Education for the DPT Program, assisting students gain quality hands-on experience through a variety of clinical education exposures.
In addition to her commitment to Tufts University and the DPT students, she serves the profession at both the state and national level. She is a continuing education reviewer for the Arizona Physical Therapy Association, a member of the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy CSM Reviewer Committee Member, part of the FSBPT Item-Writing Task Force, and a peer reviewer for the Internet Journal of Allied Health Science and Practice. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, Evelyn, husband, Mark, and blind yellow-lab, Max. Her personal interests include her Peloton, The Golden Girls, crime dramas, and puzzles.
