The description of the tripartite synapse revolutionized the well-established depiction of the central nervous system by including a new element in the classical chemical synapse: astrocytes as regulators of synaptic functions, highlighting a bidirectional communication between these two cell types. My work in aims at unraveling through which mechanisms astrocytes exert these functions, with a particular focus on sleep/wake cycle.
