My research is focused on two Gram-negative pathogens, Yersinia pseudotuberculosis and Klebsiella pneumoniae. I am studying how Yersinia regulates translocation of bacterial effector proteins into host cells during infection to interfere with host immune responses. Translocation of bacterial effectors into the host cells via the Type III secretion machinery occurs after cell contact, but the mechanism of sensing cell-contact and regulation of translocation remains unknown. Additionally, I am interested in how Klebsiella develops resistance to a metabolic inhibitor, and whether this can be used to treat MDR infections.
