GABA, the main inhibitory neurotransmitter within the brain, regulates the excitability of target cells through a diverse range of receptors. Alterations in GABAergic transmission have been implicated in neurological and psychiatric disorders including epilepsy, autism and schizophrenia. As part of our collaboration with the Innovative Medicines-Neuroscience group within AstraZeneca, I use in vitro electrophysiological methods to conduct preclinical research on targets within the GABAergic system.
