Meet Humza Hashmi, MBS25, a current MBS student at Tufts MBS. Hear from Hashmi about his journey and how Tufts MBS offers transformative opportunities, including a supportive environment for academic growth.

Why did you choose to enroll in the MBS program?

"My drive to become a physician grew through my experience as a paramedic, but I realized that this path would be academically rigorous. I enrolled in the MBS program hoping to develop the knowledge and skillset necessary to succeed on this path."

Why did you choose Tufts to pursue your degree?

"I chose Tufts MBS because of the linkage between this program and the MD program. The prospect of a guaranteed interview assures me that hard work is definitely rewarded at Tufts MBS."

What has your experience been like so far in the program?

"I have really been enjoying my time at Tufts MBS. I have found the curriculum to be cohesive and am thrilled to have supportive and knowledgeable advising. I spent four years out of school prior to starting MBS and am thankful for the wealth of resources that have enabled me to return to academics."

What is your favorite aspect about the program?

"My favorite aspect of Tufts MBS has been the camaraderie which I have been able to foster with many of my classmates. Between the non-competitive grading, and sponsored events like Fajitas-and-Rita’s, the MBS program has created a collegial atmosphere in which I have made lifelong friends."

What is your proudest personal accomplishment while at Tufts?

"My proudest accomplishment at Tufts has been the successful transition from the world of practical health care back to academia. There has definitely been a learning curve associated with developing the study skills and discipline needed to succeed in graduate-level coursework. The MBS program has facilitated this transition with its pacing and rigor, such that I have become confident in my ability to succeed in medical school."

What do you wish to accomplish upon graduation?

"My plans after graduation include a full-time research position in one of the many biomedical laboratories in Boston. I am also planning to apply to medical school and hopefully matriculate by 2025."

What do you want a prospective student to know about Tufts?

"I would tell a prospective student that Tufts MBS is demanding but doable. The program provides ample opportunities to develop the study skills needed to succeed in academics. I would also emphasize the value of the many extracurricular workshops which provide guidance about becoming a successful medical school applicant."
