About the Program
The Prematriculation Summer Program (PSP) is a four week comprehensive introduction to the courses which students encounter in the first semester of Medical School. Courses include Biochemistry, Histology; Immunology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Anatomy and Problem Based Learning (PBL). The courses are taught by faculty members, graduate research students, and medical students. These individuals are closely involved with the tutoring and teaching the courses during the academic year. Additional to coursework, there are workshops generally devoted to student concerns, run by upper-class students, on such issues as tips on survival, questions and answers about graduate school. We also provide Stress Management, Financial Aid, Computer and Email workshops. You will be assigned your lockers and have your class photo taken.
Medical students also have the chance to participate in the Sharewood Project that is student run, and organized by them and volunteer physicians. The clinic allows PSP students to work with the Sharewood staff offering medical services to the medically under-insured.
The program also provides ample time to explore the City of Boston and, if you have not yet made arrangements for living accommodations, to do so during this time.
Campus and Housing Accommodations
The Health Sciences Campus includes the Medical, Dental, and Nutrition Schools, and the Public Health and Community Medicine Department. The Medical School is beside the Tufts Medical Center complex and across the street is the Posner Hall Dormitory. Our campus shares its downtown neighborhood with Boston’s Chinese community and the theater district. The Historic Boston Common and Beacon Hill are within easy walking distance.
The PSP participants are housed on the Health Sciences Campus during the four weeks in the Posner Hall Dormitory. Posner is located at 200 Harrison Avenue. Students can move into Posner the Sunday prior to beginning the PSP that Monday. Our Resident Assistants are available to assist you upon your arrival on campus. Also, should you decide to live in Posner for the academic year you will receive your room assignment during the PSP.
