This seven week program is in collaboration with CRUDEM, a not-for-profit group that oversees Hospital Sacre Coeur located in Milot, Haiti. The hospital serves a community of approximately 150,000 patients in Northern Haiti and has become a vital source of healthcare since the 2010 earthquake. Students participate in a combination of clinical work and public health research based on their degree program, interests, and abilities.

Clinical work is designed to provide students with exposure to a variety of outpatient adult, pediatric, HIV and specialty clinics as well as inpatient medical, surgical and obstetrics. Students will work directly with Tufts clinical faculty as well as Haitian physicians. All students are also required to complete a public health project during their eight week experience. This project must be pre-approved by a TUSM faculty mentor. Opportunities to build upon prior years’ projects are encouraged. Examples of topics addressed by past students include nutrition assessment, hypertension screening, cervical cancer screening, women’s health surveys, birth record inventories, community health worker assessments and training, and water and sanitation projects. Both clinical and public health TUSM faculty will be on location to provide mentorship and guidance throughout the entire length of the program.
