Residencies: The New England Eye Center/Tufts University School of Medicine Residency in Ophthalmology offers a four-year program that blends clinical training, academic activities, and research opportunities. There are four residents in each of the four years of the program. Residents profit from outside rotations at Lahey Clinic and the University of Albuquerque.

Fellowships are available in the subspecialty areas of medical retina; cornea, external diseases and anterior segment; glaucoma; neuro-ophthalmology; ophthalmic reconstructive and orbital surgery; pediatric ophthalmology; and vitreoretinal disease and surgery.

Research: Training of research scientists is in integral component of the departmental mission. At the Vision Research Laboratories (VRL), medical students may spend from three months to more than a year apprenticing in labs. Training mechanisms at the VRL include a monthly Research-in-Progress seminar, research group meetings, and individual laboratory meetings.
