Faculty Profiles Information & Resources

As of November 18, 2025, all faculty members, regardless of employer, at Tufts University School of Medicine are included in the Tufts Faculty Information System (FIS). This applies to all full-time, part-time, adjunct, and clinical faculty but does not include TUSM members with primary appointments of Clinical Trainee and Visiting Scholar.

FIS consists of two connected platforms:

  • Tufts Elements: A secure, non-public system where you can edit and manage your profile information.
  • Tufts Discovery: A public-facing site that displays faculty profiles. Information you enter in Tufts Elements flows automatically to Tufts Discovery.

Benefits of the Faculty Information System

Your faculty profile highlights your contributions to education, leadership roles, administration and scholarly work, as well as making it easier for others to connect with you for research, teaching, and clinical collaboration. Keeping your profile current offers:

  • Visibility: Your Tufts Discovery profile is publicly accessible and will soon appear on the School of Medicine’s website.
  • Collaboration: A complete profile helps colleagues, students, and external partners find you for academic opportunities.
  • Efficiency: FIS allows you to export your profile data as a CV or NIH Biosketch in Word or PDF format.

Even if your profile is incomplete, it will still appear publicly and show up in search engine results, so adding key details ensures your work is accurately represented.

What You Need to Do

  1. Log in to Tufts Elements at faculty.tufts.edu using your Tufts username and password.
  2. Add details about your education, research, publications, teaching, administrative and clinical work.
  3. Upload a profile photo.
  4. Review your Tufts Discovery profile at facultyprofiles.tufts.edu to confirm how it appears publicly.

Filling Out Your Profile

Profile Photo
Upload a professional photo. (See photo guidelines in the FIS User Guide)

About Section
Add a short bio in Overview, list your research interests (use keywords), and include a teaching summary or other leadership roles, if relevant.

Labels (Tags)
Select research subject tags from the standard list to improve searchability. Tags appear at the bottom of your profile.

Experience
Tufts appointments are imported automatically and locked for editing. External roles can be added manually under Academic and Non-Academic Appointments.

Education
Add degrees, certifications, and training. Some may already be imported.

Web Addresses
Include links to personal, lab, research, or department websites. Social media profiles can also be added.

Publications
Publications are automatically harvested from trusted databases and displayed in faculty profiles. Claiming researcher IDs (e.g., SCOPUS IDs) ensures accuracy and saves time by reducing manual entry. This feature helps faculty maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date publication record that enhances visibility and supports networking, collaboration, and reporting needs. Missing items can still be added manually. (See the Automatic Publication Claiming user guide for more information.)

Grants
Grant data is imported from Tufts’ Research Administration System (RAS). Records are private by default but can be made public. Add grants not in RAS manually.

Teaching Activities
Courses taught at Tufts are imported from Tufts' Student Information System (SIS). Other teaching activities can be manually added.

Professional Activities
Professional activities (e.g., administrative roles, clinical service) can be added manually.
