On December 5, Tufts University School of Medicine’s Department of Medical Education (DME) welcomed a group of distinguished educators and researchers from Boston and Germany for a visit focused on advancing medical education worldwide.

The visiting scholars included:

  • Dr. Chris Seh Hong Lim, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at the MGH Institute of Health Professions
  • Dr. Silke Härteis, Professor in the Molecular and Cellular Anatomy Department and Dean of Studies in Preclinical Medicine at the University of Regensburg
  • Dr. Thiha Aung, Professor at Deggendorf Institute of Technology and University of Regensburg, and Head of the Translational Sarcoma Research and Lymphangiogenesis Group at the University of Regensburg
  • Laura Lemberger-Viehmann, PhD student at Technische Hochschule Deggendorf

The purpose of their visit was to learn how Tufts integrates innovative, forward-thinking approaches into teaching medical anatomy and foundational basic sciences. Highlights included a tour of the Thompson Simulation Center and the Michael Jaharis Jr. Anatomy Laboratory, where visitors explored state-of-the-art technology and simulation-based learning tools. These facilities showcase Tufts’ commitment to immersive education, combining advanced equipment with faculty expertise across diverse clinical and anatomical disciplines.

Beyond the educational focus, the visit opened doors for future collaboration between Tufts, the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, the University of Regensburg, and Massachusetts General Hospital. Discussions centered on potential joint research projects, faculty exchange programs, and shared educational initiatives—all aimed at strengthening global partnerships and advancing medical education and research.
