We realize that preparing for medical school and strengthening your application requires more than taking science classes and doing well in them. So, you can expect much more than excellent classes from our MBS program.
Specialized Advising
The Faculty Director and a small number of dedicated Faculty Advisors, called Academic Partners, will work with you to plan your program, discuss your progress, and assist if you are having difficulty. The Academic Partners serve as the student's personal pre-professional health advisor. A team of tutors will also be available to offer additional support, if needed, in your science courses.
Preparing You To the Next Steps
As part of the MBS program, students are enrolled in MCAT (medical school entrance exam) and DAT(dental school entrance exam) Preparatory Classes, which are held by the Princeton Review. These prep classes are included in the program tuition and courses help review content covered in the exam. As part of the prep courses, students can take full-length practice exams help with pacing and preparation.
In addition, the MBS program hosts a series of Pre-Professional Workshops and offers a subscription to the UWORLD question bank that further helps students with MCAT and DAT preparation.
Together, the MBS program curriculum and these resources help students boost their scores and enhance their applications to medical and dental schools.
Accessible and Active Faculty and Staff
Faculty members are very accessible to you and are active in your goal setting and achievements as you move through the program. Program staff will be available to discuss concerns, both academic and non-academic. They will provide you with resources to help you plan for the MCAT, if you need to take it. Premedical workshops will be offered to ensure you are strategic in your application or re-application. And the Program Director will oversee compilation of a composite letter of recommendation and supporting letters to be sent to medical schools OR send a program letter to your undergraduate committee if you prefer to work with them. During the application cycle, timely updates of your academic progress will be sent to the medical schools to which you are applying.
Should you wish to use your MS degree to gain entrance to other educational programs or related careers, trained staff will help you consider the range of choices. We will also help you think about the advantages of attaining a public health degree (MPH) by staying at Tufts for a second year.
Emphasis on Student Support
