Research/Areas of Interest

Brain oscillations arise from the orchestrated firing of neuronal ensembles and provide a dynamic readout of the ongoing brain state. Moreover, impairments in these oscillations have been observed in a number of psychiatric and cognitive disorders. Consequently, exploring the mechanisms of rhythmic oscillations may help us understand brain operations and gain insights into which neuronal computations are disrupted in cognitive disorders. Particularly, these rhythms have been shown to require the stringent control of GABAergic signalling. I am interested in studying how alterations in tonic GABAergic inhibition could affect brain oscillations in specific microcircuits and consequently impact on animal behaviour.
