Timing of Programs
Summer
This program is for MD or MPH, MD/MPH or other MPH/dual degree students who wish to participate in a global health experience during the Summer (June and July).
Rising 2nd year MD or MD/MPH students may engage in clinical observerships (shadowing opportunities) in a variety of settings or participate in a research project supervised by in-country preceptors. The minimum duration of this experience is 7 weeks.
MPH, MD/MPH and other MPH/dual degree students may do their Applied Practice Experience (APE) or Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) during the Summer period. The minimum duration of this program is 4 weeks, though students are strongly encouraged to stay in-country for 7 weeks to gain the full global health experience.
Spring
This program is for 4th year MD, MD/MPH or MD/PhD students who wish to participate in a global health clinical elective during the Spring semester (January to April, Blocks 8 to 12). The minimum duration to obtain academic credit for this program is 4 weeks of clinical engagement. MD/MPH students may stay for another 4 weeks to do their Applied Practice Experience (APE) or Integrative Learning Experience (ILE).
MPH or MPH/dual degree students may also do their Applied Practice Experience (APE) or Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) during the Spring semester. The minimum duration of this program is 4 weeks, though students are strongly encouraged to stay in country for 7 weeks to gain the full global health experience.
