Biography
William McGehee, PT, PhD has been a licensed physical therapist since 1995 and a full-time physical therapist educator since 1998. He earned his first Bachelor's degree in Zoology with an Athletic Training option from Eastern Illinois University in 1987. After practicing as Head Athletic Trainer for Bradley University, Dr. McGehee returned to school to obtain his bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Bradley University in 1995. He received his Master of Health Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Indianapolis in 2001 and completed his PhD in Public Policy Analysis and Administration with a concentration in Health Policy at St. Louis University in 2014.
Dr. McGehee is a core faculty member at the rank of Visiting Clinical Professor in the Tufts DPT Seattle program. He began his academic career as an assistant professor and Director of Clinical Education at Bradley University. In 2013, Dr. McGehee was hired as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education at the University of Florida (UF), and in 2016, he was promoted to Professor of Practice and was appointed the director for the DPT program. He held this position until his appointment as an Associate Professor at Regis University in January 2020. He was promoted to Professor at Regis University in August 2022.
Dr. McGehee has taught courses over the last 23 years in introductory therapeutic exercise principles, cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy, management and administration, professional issues, and clinical education. He was a credentialed trainer for the APTA Clinical Instructor Credentialing Program until 2019. Course evaluations from the University of Florida indicate that Dr. McGehee is an effective teacher. He achieved ratings above 4.0 out of 5.0 the past several academic years and consistently scored above the department and college mean. Students reported that Dr. McGehee was passionate, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Students also commented that they appreciated that he made expectations clear and returned feedback in a timely manner.
