Students for the Fund for Tufts Medicine

Maddie Hayes-Lattin, M24
Portland, Oregon
Stanford University, Bioengineering
Did you know? In the future I see myself as a surgeon or emergency medicine physician and would love to work in an academic setting where I can mentor others and pursue research questions. In my free time I love skiing, trail running, and listening to lots of podcasts! The spring before I started medical school, I ran the 30-mile Wildwood Trail in Portland as a “goodbye” to my West Coast home! It is a beautiful, winding trail just outside of downtown with dense green forest and foliage.
“These unprecedented times have made the skills and values fostered by the Tufts University School of Medicine – compassion, empathy, justice – more important than ever. Witnessing the advocacy Tufts’ physicians show for their patients and the passion they have for their work makes me proud to be here.

Rebecca Hu, M22
Atlanta, Georgia
Georgia Institute of Technology, Biochemistry
Did you know? I am interested in becoming a pediatric hematologist/oncologist in the future and in my free time I love doing 1000-piece puzzles and am SCUBA certified.
“I feel extremely fortunate to starting my journey to becoming a physician at Tufts. I’ve realized that being a physician is so much more than knowing pathophysiology, it is being a supportive team member, a witness to pain and frustration, and a pillar of calm in literally life or death situations.”

Katie Jillson, M23
Albuquerque, New Mexico
University of Southern California, Human Biology
Did you know? I love singing and I used to want to be an opera singer before I wanted to go to medical school. In my gap year I worked in a music school in Albuquerque. However, Punnett squares are what made me fall in love with biology and I might want to specialize in genetics. I will be the first in my family to pursue a graduate degree.
“Thank you so much for being part of the TUSM community. You are part of the reason that Tufts is the place I chose to attend and your continued support through the Fund for Tufts Medicine makes it possible for my classmates and I to experience all of these exceptional opportunities.”

Stephen Le Breton, M24
Greenwich, Connecticut
Yale University, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology
Did you know? I am a dual American/French citizen and can speak fluent French. My hobbies are skiing, scuba diving, indoor rock climbing, photography, painting, reading, guitar, rowing, and making crêpes.
“After a few years in the working world, I was excited to start my journey to becoming a Tufts’ physician; a skilled, compassionate clinician that works collaboratively with their peers to deliver the best care possible to their patients.”

Emma Livne, M21
White Plains, New York
Carnegie Mellon University, Global Studies
Did you know? I will be doing my residency in Pediatrics at Brown University (Hasbro Hospital) in Rhode Island. I enjoy hiking, ultimate frisbee, craft beer and cooking.
“As my classmates and I look ahead to graduation and residency, we are reminded of all the support we have received here at Tufts University School of Medicine. So much of it has been made possible due to the generosity of people like you, and the Fund for Tufts Medicine.”

Bailey Urbach, M24
Hudson, New Hampshire
The Ohio State University, Neuroscience
Did you know? I was a team captain and four-year letter winner on the varsity rifle team at Ohio State. And I am a member of the Junior Board of Directors for the 2nd 7 Foundation, which focuses on providing books and promoting literacy in elementary school classrooms nation-wide while also providing leadership opportunities for young athletes from high school to professional levels.
“I am confident that earning my degree at TUSM will prepare me for success as a future physician, a future educator, and any other path I choose.”
