Vision Insurance
If you’re enrolled in the Tufts Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), you have access to two types of vision benefits:
- Medical vision coverage through UHCSR (for medical conditions)
- Routine vision care through EyeMed (for exams, glasses, and contacts)
Medical Vision Needs (UHCSR Plan)
The UHCSR medical plan covers vision care for certain medical conditions, including:
- Eye injuries or diseases
- Pediatric vision services (for students under age 19)
- Contact lenses to treat keratoconus
Not Covered by UHCSR
The following are not covered under the medical plan:
- Routine eye exams
- Eyeglasses and non-medical contact lenses
- Eye refractions
- Vision correction surgeries (e.g., LASIK)
- Fittings or prescriptions for corrective lenses
Routine Vision Coverage (EyeMed Plan)
If you’re enrolled in SHIP, you’re automatically enrolled in EyeMed, which provides coverage for routine vision care:
- Routine eye exams
- Glasses and contact lenses
- Discounts on frames and lenses
- Fittings and prescriptions for corrective lenses
How to Use Your EyeMed Plan
- Your EyeMed Member ID is your Tufts student ID number.
- You’ll receive a separate EyeMed ID card by mail.
- Visit EyeMed’s website to:
- Create your account
- View your benefits
- Find in-network providers
