I have established a national educational program (called the Prevalence of Antibiotic Resistance in the Environment, PARE) that engages undergraduates in an authentic classroom research experience to shed light on environmental presence of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) microbes and to educate about stewardship. Thousands of students at about 125 undergraduate institutions across the country currently participate by uploading AMR prevalence data from local soil sites. The geo-tagged student-generated data are curated and made available in the form of a GIS map for study of trends and/or correlations.
