A Legacy of Learning: Mark and Jane Hirsh Champion the Hirsh Health Sciences Library
Their latest gift reinforces the Hirsh Health Sciences Library as a shared hub for learning, research, and collaboration across Tufts’ health sciences campus.
As a periodontist, entrepreneur, and health sciences scholar, Mark Hirsh, D.D.S., DG68, J97P, A04P, AG00P, has seen firsthand how information changes lives. Together with his wife, Jane C.I. Hirsh, J97P, A04P, AG00P, a pioneering pharmaceutical executive, they have invested in Tufts for more than 20 years.
Central to their generosity is the Hirsh Health Sciences Library, the heart of Tufts’ health sciences campus since 2005. The Hirshs’ latest gift builds on that foundation, outfitting this vital hub with expanded digital resources, technology, and study spaces where students and faculty learn, research, and collaborate.
Serving the university’s health sciences community, the library brings together extensive print and electronic collections with a range of physical spaces designed for both quiet study and collaboration. With more than 800 seats, quiet floors, collaborative areas, computer labs, study rooms, and meeting spaces, the library supports a wide range of research, learning, and instructional needs.
“For students and faculty, the library is a place to find vital answers—and to create future answers to some of the biggest questions in our fields,” said Jane Hirsh. “It is a welcoming, professional environment where the Tufts dental, medical, and nutrition communities come together to collaborate. We are pleased that our support has transformed the library into a modern space that continues to foster additional resources and experiences for all.”
