Tufts University School of Medicine
The School of Medicine has an outstanding and diverse group of affiliated clinical teaching sites. Our principal teaching hospital, Tufts Medical Center, is adjacent to our building. It is an exceptional 415-bed academic medical center that is home to both a full-service hospital for adults and the Floating Hospital for Children, the principal pediatric teaching hospital of the School of Medicine. We have six other major academic affiliates: Baystate Medical Center, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Maine Medical Center, Newton Wellesley Hospital, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, South Shore Hospital, and many other highly-rated teaching affiliates (listed below). Our array of affiliates offers an outstanding opportunity for students to learn in diverse settings from rural communities to suburban locations and major urban areas.
Tufts Medical Center is an internationally-respected academic medical center and the principle teaching hospital for Tufts School of Medicine. Located in downtown Boston, next to the School of Medicine, it is home to a full-service adult hospital, the Floating Hospital for Children, and a robust research program.

Baystate Medical Center (BMC) is an academic, research, and teaching hospital located in Springfield, MA. BMC is a 659-bed facility with 57 bassinets and is home to the only Level 1 Trauma Center in western Massachusetts and the second-busiest emergency department in Massachusetts.

Carney Hospital is a community teaching hospital located in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood. Carney Hospital is a 159-bed facility that provides primary care, emergency medicine and a range of specialties and subspecialties including; critical care, family medicine, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, ambulatory care and adolescent, adult and geriatric psychiatry.

Faulkner Hospital is a 162-bed community teaching hospital located in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. Faulkner Hospital provides medical, surgical and psychiatric care, as well as complete emergency, ambulatory and diagnostic services, and their largest inpatient services are internal medicine, cardiology, psychiatry, pulmonary, orthopedics, gastroenterology and general/GI surgery.

Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts, is a full-service, acute care Catholic hospital with 267 beds, 17 bassinets, and 10 special care bassinets. It provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and Level III Trauma emergency services.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a physician-led, nonprofit group practice. The Lahey Hospital & Medical Center location in Burlington, MA encompasses an ambulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day, a Level II Trauma Center and a 335-bed hospital. The Lahey Medical Center location in Peabody, MA serves more than 800 outpatients each day and includes a 10-bed hospital.

Maine Medical Center (MMC) is Maine’s largest medical center and the flagship hospital of MaineHealth, a 12-member health system touching central, southern, and western Maine and eastern New Hampshire. MMC has partnered with Tufts University School of Medicine to create an innovative model of undergraduate medical education called the Maine Track. This unique curriculum offers clinical training experiences in Maine designed to expose medical students to both a major tertiary medical center as well as to the distinctive aspects of rural practice.

The Newton-Wellesley Hospital is a community teaching hospital that serves Boston’s western suburban communities; primarily Newton, Needham, Wellesley, and Weston. The Hospital offers a range of medical, surgical and specialty care, including maternity services, a 24-hour emergency department and orthopedic, critical care and oncology inpatient units.

North Shore Medical Center (NSMC), located on the North Shore of Boston, is the second largest community hospital system in Massachusetts. It includes multiple hospitals and physician offices, as well as outpatient and urgent care sites. It offers comprehensive medical and surgical services, including adult and pediatric emergency departments on the Salem campus, and an adult emergency department at NSMC Union Hospital. NSMC’s medical staff includes nearly 700 affiliated physicians representing primary care, family practice and 50 additional sub-specialties.
