Research/Areas of Interest
Polyomaviruses are associated with a number of human diseases. For example, JC virus causes progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), BK virus is correlated with renal dysfunction in kidney transplant patients and Merkel cell polyomavirus is implicated in a rare but aggressive form of skin cancer. Our goal is to understand, in molecular terms, the replication of these viruses. We are also very interested in finding inhibitors of T-antigen (T-ag), the viral protein that initiates Polyomavirus DNA replication.
