Tufts NMR Center
The Tufts University Biological NMR Center provides NMR support for the research community at Tufts University and the surrounding area. The NMR data collected in this facility is typically used for 5 areas of interest:
- three-dimensional structure determination of proteins, protein domains, and peptides
- quantification of tumor and tissue extracts and biofluids using metabolomics approaches
- inhibitor identification and characterization
- characterization of molecular binding
- determination of molecular dynamics
The facility houses two NMR spectrometers:
- a Bruker Avance 600
- a Bruker DPX-300
The instruments are housed in a separate environmentally controlled lab on the M V 6th floor of the Biomedical Research and Public Health Building complex at 136 Harrison Avenue in downtown Boston.
Three individuals coordinate the NMR facility:
- William Bachovchin, PhD, Director
- Jim Baleja, PhD, Associate Director
- David Sanford, PhD, Maintenance and Computational Expertise
Hourly rates are set annually by the local advisory committee and depend on the instrumentation used, the degree of support required, and the academic affiliation of the user.
