Why did you choose to pursue this degree?

"I chose to pursue this degree because I strive to understand how social determinants and more can also impact health outcomes. Health is often a lot more about circumstances than choices. As a PA candidate with a particular interest in public health, I commit to considering the factors that play into the development and exacerbation of disease, rather than just offering treatment after the fact. I want to help patients before they find themselves reaching their lowest health point. I am also interested in research that informs interventions for vulnerable communities, especially related to disparities by race, resident status, and insurance status. A dual degree MPH/PA allows me to do just that."

Why did you choose Tufts to pursue your degree?

"Tufts offers the dual degree that I wanted, which is actually not that common. Being able to live and learn public health in Boston is also a very unique and valuable experience, considering how diverse the city itself is. The PA program is also very public health-focused, which I quickly learned in the informational session that made me fall in love with the program!"

What has your experience been like in the program?

"My experience thus far has been great. I am still in my MPH portion of my degree, and the classes are unlike any of the public health courses I took in undergrad (I was a public health science major). They are really application-based and prepare you well for a career in public health. The professors are so kind and invested in helping you be successful both in class and in your career!"

What is your favorite aspect about the program?

"I like how small the classes are. It really gives you a chance to get to know your peers and their interests in public health, as well as your professor. It is also fun going to school in Chinatown!"

What is your proudest personal accomplishment while at Tufts?

"My proudest accomplishment thus far is being able to be apart of a research team this summer (in my second semester). I have learned a lot about qualitative data analysis and the paper we are writing aligns with what is important to me—advocating for social justice in health."

What do you wish to accomplish upon graduation?

"The world requires a new generation of healthcare providers that have a unique, multidisciplinary perspective on disease etiology to yield greater compassion and better health outcomes, and I hope to be a part of that driving force as a PA."

"Come to Tufts if you want an intimate program with interesting speciality options!"
