Mission Statement

As a free health education program that also provides limited health care services, the Sharewood Project's mission is to enhance the health of the Boston area community by providing services for the medically underserved. To this end, we engage with a strong network of community organizations, educational institutions, and local resources to contribute to the care of community members. The Sharewood Project also strives to orient medical students to the process of health care delivery, providing them with an opportunity to build interpersonal skills through clinical engagements and to expose them to a diverse client population.

The Sharewood Project is a free health education program that provides limited health care services. Sharewood is led by volunteer medical, public health students, and master's students affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. The Sharewood Project collaborates with other community organizations to provide educational services. Recent community partnerships have included the Wang YMCA of Chinatown, Cambridge Health Alliance, and the Somerville Winter Farmers Market, and Gratis Healthcare.

Our current services emphasize patient education with the assistance of our community partnerships. Students aim to educate the greater Boston community about a healthy lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, and the importance of medical wellness. Under the supervision of physicians and other healthcare providers, students have also been trained to provide community members with medical screening tests such as blood glucose and blood pressure measurements. Another major focus of the Sharewood Project is training students to become Certified Application Counselors (CACs) to help eligible community members navigate applying for MassHealth. Sharewood is excited to announce a new community partnership with Gratis Healthcare, a volunteer-run free clinic located in Framingham, MA. Selected TUSM students will have the opportunity to assist physicians and nurses in delivering medical and mental health services to the Greater Boston Community.

The Sharewood Project is continually expanding additional community partnerships to expand our services throughout Boston.
