A Day in the Life of a Tufts PA Student
Join Erin Savage, PA26, as she navigates classes, friendships, and Boston's charm!
Hi everyone! My name is Erin, and I’m currently in my didactic year with the Tufts PA program. In this write-up, I’ll share what a typical day looks like both in and out of the classroom! Also make sure to check out my Instagram reel!
Morning Motivation: Rise and Shine!
I usually start my day around 6am. After making a big cup of coffee and packing my meals for the day, I head out the door. I rely on Boston public transportation for my commute to campus, which takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Most days, class begins at 8am but Thursday mornings are a bit different. I use the extra time for a quick workout before getting ready for the day.
Classroom Chronicles
After freshening up in the locker room on campus, I head to the classroom area to say hello to the faculty, review my notes, and grab a quick breakfast. On Thursdays, our class splits into two groups, alternating between OB/GYN casework and procedures lab. I start with casework at 8:30am, which allows us to apply material we learned earlier in the week in a small group setting.
Mastering Skills
After casework, I transition to procedures lab, where we gain hands-on experience. Recently, we practiced our suturing and surgical knot skills. At 12pm, we enjoy a one-hour break to eat lunch, review notes, and take a quick walk with friends.
Afternoon Adventures: Learning Never Stops!
After the break, we return to the classroom for the afternoon. Overall, we’re usually in class for 6 to 7 hours each day. After class, I like to stay on campus to get some work done before heading home for dinner or meeting friends to enjoy some of Boston's gems, like the Charles Esplanade.
Evening Wind Down: Finding Harmony
After dinner, I squeeze in a bit more studying before heading to bed between 10-10:30pm.
Although my schedule is busy, I've found it helpful to plan my days, meal prep for the week, and carve out time for walks or runs. Some weeks are better than others, but I’m grateful for the experience I’m having in PA school. Tufts has done a fantastic job preparing us, and I've made amazing friends along the way.
Thank you for joining me on a glimpse into my daily life as a Tufts PA student! If you have any questions or want to know more about the program, feel free to reach out!
