On November 15, 2024, Dean Helen Boucher and the Office of Development and Alumni Engagement hosted a special celebration to dedicate the Dr. Walid El-Bermani Advanced Anatomy Lab. This event honored a beloved educator whose legacy has shaped generations of Tufts medical students.

The Advanced Anatomy Lab, a state-of-the-art space within the Michael J. Anatomy Lab at Tufts University School of Medicine, plays a critical role in training future physicians. It provides senior students with invaluable opportunities to refine advanced dissection techniques and collaborate closely with expert faculty. This innovative space reflects Dr. El-Bermani’s dedication to hands-on, student-centered learning.

Thanks to the generosity of Ron Riesenburger, A97, M01, David Liu, M94, and an anonymous donor, as well as contributions from the TUSM community, this space now carries Dr. El-Bermani’s name to celebrate his remarkable legacy. Dr. El-Bermani, an emeritus associate professor of anatomy and cellular biology, dedicated more than four decades to teaching anatomy at TUSM and was known for his passion for anatomy, commitment to excellence, and ability to inspire countless students. His impact extends far beyond the classroom, touching the lives of thousands of physicians and the patients they serve.

Dr. El-Bermani, who joined the event via Zoom, was moved by the tributes and stories shared by the attendees, underscoring the profound influence he has had on the Tufts community. During the ceremony, students, faculty, and alumni reflected on the moments that defined Dr. El-Bermani’s teaching career—his engaging lectures, his patient mentorship, and his dedication to fostering curiosity and critical thinking.

As the Advanced Anatomy Lab continues to train future physicians, it will serve as a lasting tribute to Dr. El-Bermani’s vision and impact. His name on this space ensures that his contributions to Tufts University School of Medicine will continue to inspire generations of medical students for years to come.
