Our Alumni: Jenna Skinner
"Pursue the classes that sound the most relevant to what you envision doing post-graduation. We have a great faculty and wonderful people to learn from."
I am a Client Engagement Manager with Cigna. I design and implement health and wellness strategies for our clients and employer groups, based on their specific needs. I conduct onsite presentations to current and prospective clients on Cigna's tools, strategies for increasing engagement, campaigns to reduce unnecessary medical expenses, etc. I also educate customers on health and wellness topics, as well as how to be better consumers of health care.
What inspired you to pursue an MPH in your area of specialization?
I was also pursuing an MS in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition at Tufts’ Jerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy so I was looking for a concentration that would complement the policy work I was doing at the Friedman school.
What drew you to the Tufts’ Program?
Tufts great reputation in Nutrition as well as Public Health!
How did your Tufts degree help prepare you to work in the field (or what were the highlights of your Program)?
I loved the dual degree program at Tufts. It was perfect for me to be able to pursue both my MS and MPH at two great programs simultaneously. The two curriculums were complementary and prepared me well to pursue a career in Workplace Wellness design.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
Network with alumni while you are in the program and afterward as well: we have a great network in the Boston area and beyond. As an alumna, I love hearing from current students and recent grads. It is a great way to stay connected and a wonderful way for students to get a sense of the field. Also, pursue the classes that sound the most relevant to what you envision doing post-graduation. We have a great faculty and wonderful people to learn from. At the same time, it can be great to step outside of your comfort zone and take something a little bit different.
