About Our Department

Welcome from the Chair

Peter Brodeur

Welcome to the Department of Medical Education! We are a new department, established in 2018 to provide a vibrant and collaborative home for TUSM faculty members whose primary role is medical education on the Tufts Health Sciences Campus. We strive to bring inclusive and student-centered basic science instruction to the diverse body of students who make up our medical, dental, physician assistant and MS in Biomedical Sciences programs. Our faculty include leaders in course design and delivery, student mentoring, admissions, curricular development, instructional innovation, education research, and community outreach.

Center for Science Education

Our department is home to the Center for Science Education, which specializes in design-based research projects.

This center focuses on bringing the up-to-date science behind health and disease into high school classrooms; understanding approaches that shape student perceptions of self and STEM careers; and identifying educational practices that engage students in authentic science experiences to build scientific and health literacy.

Anatomical Teaching and Research

Our department is home to the Michael Jaharis Jr. Anatomy Laboratory and our faculty provide anatomical training to our health sciences professional students.

We are also home to the Advanced Anatomy Lab which is used for specialized advanced training involving both research and education.

The Anatomical Gift Program is operated by our department.
